How do I get a better knowledge of subgenres?

Do you know of any blogs or places on the internet I can go to read more into the classification of music into subgenres? In the last few years I've really been getting into music, and it's pretty much the only "popular" thing I can talk about with other people. I'm rather quirky. I like sound of artists like Ingrid Michaelson, A Fine Frenzy, Feist, and anything that has ever come out of the mouth of Regina Spektor. I enjoy all the intricacies of electronica similar to Roisin Murphy and Bjork. Cake and Beck are pretty sweet as well. My taste in metal is pretty widespread, but I just can't stand anything associated with the words "hardcore" or "metalcore". My friends ask me for music suggestions all the time and I think getting a better perspective on subgenres would help me out a ton. Thank you!
